» I had the pleasure of visiting Junia the week of November 8 -12, 2021. Two HTU undergraduate students and a research assistant from HTU visited with me. The purpose of the visit was to discuss means of collaborations between HTU and Junia. During the visit, I met with the staff from the international office and some of the faculty members from engineering.

We had the chance to learn about the organization’s structure and the different programs offered at Junia. We also toured the campus and saw several labs, such as electrical engineering lab, smart grids lab and energy efficiency lab. Additionally, we saw the smart farming project, and other ongoing projects to convert buildings to smart ones. We had a nice demo for Junia smart grid/smart building demonstrator. Furthermore, we had a very fruitful discussion on how we can establish collaboration between HTU and Junia. Several topics were discussed, including Erasmus+ mobility, joint programs, establishing research collaboration, as well as other opportunities.

I was impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of the staff, and everyone I met at Junia. The students that accompanied me were impressed with the potential of continuing their education in the future at Junia. The research assistant is staying on for a couple of weeks at Junia to receive training on smart grids to kick off our research collaboration. From a research standpoint, we discussed several research opportunities and topics that are of interest to both organizations.

During the tour I saw how historical buildings were repurposed by converting them into smart buildings. I was impressed to see how this conversion connected the past with the present and infused it with technology.

I’m excited to be a part of the research momentum at Junia, and I look forward to working with their faculty members toward advancements in energy and expanding our international collaboration.  »
