Our Areas of Research
JUNIA’s research teams focus their work on four major areas that address the agricultural, energy, industrial, environmental, and societal challenges of today and tomorrow.
4 Areas to Help Understand the Challenges of Tomorrow
Sustainable Agriculture and Food
How can we produce, process, and consume in a more sustainable way? Research in this field focuses on agricultural systems, food, biological resources, and changing consumer expectations. Related topics: Sustainable agriculture · Agri-food · Biotechnology · Biodiversity
Energy and Regions
How can we support the energy transition in buildings, networks, and regions? Our teams are working on energy systems, mobility, smart grids, and decarbonization strategies. Related topics: Hydrogen · Batteries · Mobility · Decarbonization
Industry, Digital Technology, and Artificial Intelligence
How can digital technologies be harnessed to benefit industry and everyday life? This field brings together research on the industry of the future, artificial intelligence, data, and connected systems. Related topics: AI · Robotics · Data · IoT
Health, Environment, and Quality of Life
How can we conserve resources and improve living conditions? Research explores the links between health, the environment, and natural resources in order to improve quality of life and preserve ecosystems. Related topics: Health · Water · Environment · Life Sciences
Expertise that comes to life in our projects
JUNIA's areas of research are reflected in projects carried out with academic, industrial, and institutional partners to address real-world challenges.
From Expertise to Practical Applications
The research areas are supported by demonstrators, laboratories, and scientific platforms that enable the testing, analysis, and evaluation of new approaches.
Companies can collaborate with JUNIA in various ways: joint research projects, feasibility studies, expert consulting services, prototype development, hosting PhD students, or participating in collaborative projects. Research teams work closely with companies’ needs to turn real-world issues into applicable solutions. This approach fosters knowledge transfer, innovation, and real-world experimentation.
Research at JUNIA is organized around the major transitions transforming companies and regions: environment, agriculture, food, energy, digital technology, and industry. Researchers work on topics such as cybersecurity, smart electrical grids, robotics, innovative materials, sustainable agriculture, food quality, and natural resource management. This diversity makes it possible to combine different disciplines and develop concrete solutions to the challenges of our time.
JUNIA’s research fields guide the projects carried out by the school’s researchers, students, and partners. This work draws on major environmental, agricultural, energy, digital, and industrial transitions in order to address real challenges faced by companies and regions. This approach turns real-world issues into research, experimentation, and innovation projects.
Research at JUNIA addresses several major challenges of our time: the energy transition, the industry of the future, responsible digital technology, cybersecurity, sustainable agriculture, food, environmental preservation, and resource management. Research teams develop knowledge and solutions that help support the transformation of companies, regions, and society.
Research is carried out within JUNIA’s laboratories, technology platforms, and demonstrators. It also draws on the five research laboratories co-supervised by JUNIA and on an ecosystem of academic and industrial partners. Present in Lille, Châteauroux, and Bordeaux, the school develops its research activities in connection with the specific characteristics of its regions and the needs of local stakeholders.
