Program objectives

The Environmental Science and Pollution Management program is designed to train future consultants, field experts and scientists through a hands-on approach to gain technical expertise in the broad field of management of pollution in an international context. Students develop skills in:

  • Water treatment
  • Water resource management
  • Soil science and contamination assessment
  • Toxicology & ecotoxicology
  • Environmental remediation techniques and strategies (physical/chemical treatment, bioremediation, phytoremediation…)

Hands-on experience

Thanks to the teaching methods, combining theoretical and practical approaches, the program prepares students to be skilled professionals, ready to enter either the corporate world or the field of research depending on their career plans. Students learn through Project-Based Learning, individual and group work, case studies and field visits. Internships in companies or research institutes allow students to confront the reality of the professional world and to be ready and competitive for the job market.
In addition, JUNIA is committed to offer a global learning experience, helping the students develop a more international perspective on the topic. A number of international experts from partner universities or companies participate in giving lectures, supervising projects and providing professional guidance.
Moreover, students get the opportunity to attend international conferences and participate in several field trips and study tours in France & Europe

Internships

As with all programs at JUNIA, students will spend at least 30% of their studies as interns. Students will perform a 3 to 4-month internship in the first year of the program and 6 months in the second year.

Research in soils & environment

‘The Environmental Science and Pollution Management program was birthed from the decades of experience of researchers at JUNIA who are part of the Laboratory of Civil Engineering and Geo-Environment (LGCgE), which regroups several research units in the north of France. One of the principal thematic areas of the research group is the functioning of anthropogenic terrestrial ecosystems with a focus on the fate of pollutants in the environment matrices, their impact on ecosystems, and the phytoremediation of contaminated sites. Scientific publications of researchers can be found here.’
